“Canada’s national team jets off to Sri Lanka this week — minus a captain. The team will hone its skills on the island before departing for the United Arab Emirates to take part in the T20 World Cup qualifiers that begin March 13.

All-rounder Jimmy Hansra, who assumed the captaincy from Ashish Bagai after the World Cup last April, threw in the towel last month after the team returned from the Caribbean T20 tournament.

One would have expected Cricket Canada to fill in the vacancy before the team departed, but it obviously doesn’t consider the man who makes all the on-field decisions important. The reason Hansra believes he can offer more as a batsman without the additional burden of leading the team as well …”
