The losers of yesterday’s Preliminary finals played for 5th place at the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier in Dubai. Canada batted first after winning the toss, and got off to a slow start, taking just 5 runs from the first two overs. Cheema hit a big six over lnog-on, then was caught for 8. Gunasekera made 20, Kumar 16 and Patel 17 as wickets fell steadily without any batsman really building an innings. By the time Gordon and Hansra had failed to reach double figures, it fell to the tail to build a defendable total. Baidwan hit three boundaries in his 21, and Junaid Siddiqui hit a six as Canada reached 135/8 from their 20 overs.
Aulakh and Junaid Siddiqui shared the new ball, and Junaid Siddiqui bowled MacLeod with his fifth ball and Mommsen with his 9th – 23/2 in the 4th over. Scotland kept the run rate up and at the halfway mark were 67/3. Desai took a wicket but proved expensive. Scotland paced their innings well, and needed 7 off the final over with 5 wickets in hand. Cheema took the ball himself and had Watts caught behind off the first ball. Singles came off the next three balls – 4 off 2. Cheema managed a dot ball from the 5th delivery, but a powerful drive just beat the diving fielder and reached the boundary to give Scotland a last ball win.
