Canada-Namibia 2nd one-day match

Canada lost the second one day match of the Namibian trip, part of the ICC World Cricket League Championship. A strong all-round bowling performance, led by skipper Cheema’s six wickets dismissed Namibia for 154, but Canada were unable to capitalize, their innings of 133 containing four ducks.

Namibia batted after winning the toss in Soraine had Steenkamp caught for 3 in his second over, but then Namibia made steady progress, Opperman (33) and Burger putting on 52. Tyson Gordon initiated a collapse when Opperman was caught behind, and Namibia slumped to 72-5, Cheema taking two wickets and Junaid Siddiqui one. Namibia made it to three figures but at the expense of two more wickets, Hansra getting into the act, and Cheema taking his third – 100/7 after 31 overs. Viljoen contributed an invaluable unbeaten fifty but Cheema was unstoppable, finishing with 6/34 as Nambia were bowled out for 154 in the 46th over.

When Canada started their reply, Gunasekera was caught and bowled by Viljoen in the second over with 11 runs on the board. Kumar went for a duck and Canada faced an uphill struggle at 12/2. Patel was leg-before for Williams for 17 and Limbada made a single before also falling to Williams – 31/4. Hansra and Gordon stopped the rot with a patient partnership of 60. Hansra made 34 from 76 balls before Viljoen had him caught, with Canada still needing 59. Two quick wickets put Namibia on top with Cheema and Junaid Siddiqui both making ducks. Bhatti provided Gordon with good support, and took Canada to within 23 runs of victory when both were dismissed three balls apart. Gordon made 38 from 96 balls. Soraine was unable to reproduce his heroics from the first game, and Canada lost by 21 runs.
