A colourful ‘Crazy for Cricket’ evening, an RBC sponsored community event to raise funds for the Valley Park GO Green Cricket Field, is taking place in Toronto on May 6. The field is going to be Canada’s first-ever green cricket field designed to have its own harvesting and rainwater irrigation system. Surrounded by ecological amenities, it is situated in the lush green Don Valley area.
The purpose of the event is not only to raise funds, but also to celebrate the construction of the field, which will begin on Canada Day (July 1). The first half of the event will take place on Sunday (May 6) at 1-4pm at Toronto Cricket Club (141 Wilson Ave) where a T20 match between RBC and local All-Star team of youth is schedule to be played.
The match will be followed by a musical and dinner programs from 6-10pm at Valley Park Middle School (130 Overlea Blvd., Toronto).
Veteran Indian cricket player Sunil Joshi will also come to grace the occasion whereas famous performers like R7B United, Shyamala Ram and Tariq Hameed will amuse the audience.
Lisa Grogan-Green, co-chair of the project, said they are looking for businesses and individuals to donate items for raffles. She said they are hoping to raise a minimum $5,000.
Go Green is a $1.5 million community project planned to convert the nearby Valley Park Middle School’s playground into a scenic butterfly pattern having an outdoor amphitheatre, trails to walk and enjoy, food garden, a picnic area, bio-swale and wetland as well as a multi-sports field for games like cricket, soccer, baseball and basketball.
