Numerous agencies are reporting that the PCB has welcomed Canada’s acceptance of an offer to tour Pakistan. The tour is scheduled for September and will mark the first international cricket played in the country since the terrorist attacks on the Sri Lanka team in 2009. “PCB has thanked Cricket Canada for their interest in sending their national team to Pakistan. PCB believes in strengthening the relationship further between the two boards,” said a PCB statement.
Cricket Canada’s site has a headline “STATEMENT ON POTENTIAL PAKISTAN TOUR NO FORMAL COMMUNICATION FROM PCB -Cricket Canada believes strongly in fostering solid relationships with all full member…”. Unfortunately clicking on the headline leads only to a 404 not found page, so the rest of the statement remains a mystery – unless you go to Facebook where the full statement, posted on May 9 reads as follows:-
“Cricket Canada believes strongly in fostering solid relationships with all of the full member boards of the ICC. With that in mind I can confirm that I have reached out to my counterpart at PCB with respect to strengthing ties between Pakistan and Canada. We have asked for details with respect to a potential tour but have had no formal discussions regarding it as of yet.”
