TDSA North Region semi-finalists confirmed

Victoria Park Collegiate Institute (CI) will play CW Jeffreys CI and Georges Vanier Secondary School (SS) will meet Emery CI in the Toronto District School Board North Region semi-finals on Friday (June 1st). Play is scheduled to begin at 11 am in these semi-finals at Ross Lord Park. The winners advance to the North Region Final, due to start the same park at 2.30pm.

North Region Pool A saw C W Jefferys and Georges Vanier top the standings, each had a record of 3 wins and 1 defeat. John Polanyi CI placed third with 2 wins and 2 losses, followed by Newtonbrook SS (1 win/3 losses) and Northview Heights SS (1 win/3 losses).

Wednesday proved to be the dividing line for John Polanyi CI in this section with a 50 run loss to C W Jefferys and a 66-run loss to Georges Vanier. CW Jefferys 94 for four wickets (15 overs) proved too much as John Polanyi was bowled out for 54. Georges Vanier, as previously reported, had scored 119 for seven wickets (15 overs) against John Polanyi, then restricted Polanyi to 53 for eight wickets.

Emery CI topped North Region Pool B with an unbeaten record of 4 wins. Victoria Park placed second with 3 wins and one defeat, followed by Westview Centennial SS (2 wins/2 defeats), George S Henry Academy (1 win/3 defeats) and Earl Haig (0 wins/4 defeats).

Emery CI completed four pool B wins on Tuesday thanks to a nine wicket win over George S. Henry. George S. Henry was bowled out for 38 in 13.5 overs. Emery romped to a winning 43 for one wicket in 5.2 overs. Last week Victoria Park made 56 for six wickets (10.5 overs) against Emery, who made 57 for eight wickets (13.3 ov). Emery beat Westview Centennial by five wickets. Westview Centennial scored 96 for six wickets (15 overs). Emery responded with a winning 97 for five wickets in 14 overs. Emery had scored 84 all out (14 overs) and restricted Earl Haig to 40 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 15 overs in a much more comfortable win.

The two North Region finalists will doubtless qualify for Tuesday’s City Quarter-finals and the complete line-up for those City level playoffs will surely emerge from follow-up discussions during Saturday’s CIMA Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament Finals for the CIBC Trophy at Sunnybrook Park (June 2nd), if not before! The TDSB City Quarter finals line-up next Tuesday already include East Region finalists Woburn CI and Agincourt CI, West Region finalists North Albion CI and West Humber CI.
