18-year old national team player Nitish Kumar is having an excellent season at English public school Repton. Repton has a distinguished record of developing top-class cricketers, with 132 first-class players among the graduates, including three England captains. Kumar recently made a superb 146, described on the school web site as follows:-
“A remarkable opening stand from Kumar and Goodacre, that went past 200 in just the 21st over, set the game up well, especially when you consider that the XL club had added two bowlers from the Nottinghamshire Academy to their side for the game. Goodacre started superbly, but once Kumar found his range, his hitting was incredible. He peppered the bank and The Paddock, as well as the truck with the Speech day marquee on that had just arrived. He was out for 146 with 15 overs left. Had he stayed in, it felt like he could have scored twice that, especially when you consider he only faced two balls in the opening four overs! ”
Kumar also has made Repton’s first ever 20-20 century from 59 balls; other notable innings include 70 against the Deryshire Cricket Board and an unbeaten 50 against Eton. The young man is gaining great experience in conditions very different to those in Canada, and will be an asset to the national squad in Scotland.
