Global Toronto’s John Kennedy reports that Cricket Canada are looking at Toronto Islands for a new national cricket stadium.
“A century after Babe Ruth hit his first professional home run at Hanlan’s Point, the crack of bats and cheers of spectators may be heard there again.
Cricket Canada has pitched a plan to build a stadium on the southwest tip of the Toronto Islands.
“It would be our national home,” says Cricket Canada CEO Doug Hannum.
The organization is seeking a 25-year lease on land adjacent to the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. Hannum says if a deal with the City is done by the fall, there could be a cricket pitch on the site next spring. Construction of a stadium would take several years.
