“WHEN Naeem Bardai realised he was not going to achieve his dream of playing for the Montreal Canadiens in Canada’s NHL, he knew drastic action was needed. So he switched sports and countries to play local cricket at Hatherley and Reddings in Cheltenham instead. Some adjustment was needed leaving a country of glorious, snowy mountain peaks to Cheltenham, with its views of the Leckhampton Hill, but Bardai settled in well. The wicketkeeper once dreamed, like many young sport-loving Canadians, of becoming one of the greatest ice hockey players in the National Hockey League but he has followed his father’s footsteps in pursuing a love for cricket.
