Blue trumps Gold in Halifax League T20 Final!

Halifax Cricket League T20 Championship Final – Saturday October 13th, 2012
Halifax Gold 93 for 8 wkts (20 overs) lost to Halifax Blue 94 for 5 wkts (18 overs) by five wickets.
Halifax Blue retained the Halifax Cricket League’s T20 championship on Saturday thanks to a five wicket win over Halifax Gold, who had been dominant in the 2012 regular season. Halifax Blue became the first team in the modern era of the Nova Scotia Cricket Association’s Halifax Cricket history to capture both the season opening Deonarine Cup and the League T20 championship trophy in the same year. Blue had previously triumphed in the 2011 Halifax Cricket League’s T20 Championship.

Halifax Blue’s Akhil Kannath Angandi captured four wickets for 20 runs, and the Man-of-the-Match award, as Halifax Gold was restricted to 93 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs on a cold and windy day at the Halifax Commons cricket ground. Sanjeev Tagra chipped in with two wickets for 2 runs. Matt Web top-scored for Gold with 24 and Amit Joshi made 19.
Anmol Zakhmi hit 36 and Naved Malim 27 as Blue reached a winning 94 for five at the end of the 18th over. Gold’s Ashraf Khan took two wickets for 17 runs and Daksh Talwar took one wicket for 3 runs.
So, congratulations to Halifax Blue on this 2012 double success in the Halifax League’s T20 cricketing action. Thanks to Nova Scotia Cricket Association Vice-President Matt Lane for providing not only news of the game, but also a photo of the winning Halifax Blues team adorned with a banner that gives some payback to AIL Satti, the “proud sponsors of Nova Scotia Cricket”.
The Halifax League’s 40-over championship is due to be played today (Sunday, October 14th) but the weather omens are, apparently, not too good with rain expected to make an appearance. The Nova Scotia Cricket Association’s web site (www.novascotiacricket.com), along with Facebook and Twitter are sources of more information about cricket’s progress in that part of the world. Astute observers might notice the NSCA website is included in the photo of T20 Champion Halifax Blue.
Almost revolutionary stuff by some of the ‘accepted standards’ in Canadian cricket.
