The 2012 International Cricket Council (ICC) Americas Regional Award for Best Junior Participation was presented at Toronto’s City Hall on Thursday during the launch of the 2013 CIMA/Toronto Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament. Former Canadian captain Ingleton Liburd acted for both ICC Americas and Cricket Canada in making the presentation to Toronto City Mayor Rob Ford, CIBC Senior Vice-President Raza Hasan and CIMA Canada Chair Amal Ratnayake.
The 2013 CIMA Mayor’s School Cricket tournament will be held between May 13 and May 17 with the final games on June 1 at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Park. Last year 40 schools participated in this event. However, in 2013 there is to be participation from schools in the Peel and York Regions, with teams from Mississauga, Brampton and Markham expected to register to compete.
The CIBC Trophies for the 2012 schools tournament were presented to Lester B. Pearson Collegiate Institute (2012 High School Boys Champions), York Memorial Collegiate (2012 High School Girls Champions) and Valley Park Middle School (2012 Middle School Champions).
Individual awards were presented to Daniel Singh (Best Bowler award, Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School), Talha Shaikh (Best Batsman, George Harvey CI) and Kanha Dixit (Most Valuable Player, Lester B. Pearson CI) as well as the coaches from the various participating schools.
CIMA is the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, founded in 1919. It is the world’s largest body of Management Accountants with over 200,000 members in some 173 countries.
