Cricket across the Pond Scholarships 2013 – RBC/CIMA Toronto Mayor’s XI

There is still time for young Toronto cricketers to register in the hope of winning one of the 2013 “Cricket Across the Pond Scholarships”. Cricket across the Pond is a community initiative lead by Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation in partnership with CIMA Canada and lead financial sponsorship from RBC. The 2013 CIMA Toronto Mayor’s XI is scheduled to visit the United Kingdom between July 13 and July 20, 2013 for what has become, since inception in 2008, an annual cricket tour.

The registration deadline for the 2013 scholarships is May 30, 2013. Applicants must meet certain qualifications in order to be considered for a scholarship. Details of these requirements can be found on the CIMA Canada website (www.cimacanada.org) through “Cricket Across the Pond Program”. Applicants who meet the qualifying standards can then register on-line.
“Cricket Across the Pond (CAP) is a community initiative led by the Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation in partnership with CIMA Canada and a lead financial sponsorship from the Royal Bank of Canada. CAP is designed to provide opportunities to youth from diverse neighbourhoods and develop social cohesion and interaction among young people through cricket. CAP uses cricket as a vehicle to reach out to youth by giving them a sense of hope, increased self-esteem and opportunities to become positive role models in our communities.”
“The program provides young Toronto cricketers with leadership and communications skills and the opportunity to travel to UK and learn life lessons as ambassadors of Toronto. CAP aims to develop these young Toronto ambassadors as youth role models in our communities.”
“In order to be considered for the Cricket Across the Pond scholarship, you must
– demonstrate your community involvement and leadership;
– have a keen interest in developing your cricket skills;
– be between the ages of 16 – 20;
– be willing to travel to the United Kingdom for 14 days; and
– be a resident of Toronto.”
