For the past 30 years, Trinity College School art teacher Andrew Gregg has coached the Middleside cricket team. This spring he wrapped up his final season with the squad, and reflected on three decades with the sport.
Ode to Middleside Cricket
“On a recent wind blasted and sodden Sunday my 30 years of coaching TCS Middleside cricket came to a glorious (a rare victory) end. Coaching might be putting too fine a point on it. For the past decade it has involved mostly cajoling, injury avoidance and good old fashioned encouragement. It may also be likened to herding cats. There has never been a place for the elegant stylist, the experienced player, for the simple reason that in recent times we’ve never had many players who know anything about this wonderful game.”
