Wednesday’s scheduled match between USA U-19 and Canada U-19 at the 2013 ICC Americas U-19 Division One Tournament has been abandoned without a ball bowled. A heavy thunderstorm late Monday afternoon and early evening caused flash flooding in the greater Toronto area. Maple Leaf Cricket Club, the host facility at the tournament located an hour north of downtown Toronto, became inundated with water…
Tournament officials are discussing the best way to proceed with the rest of the event. It’s possible that the tournament, originally scheduled as a double round-robin tournament between the three teams, will now be played as a single round-robin event with each team still playing an equal number of games. There is also an outside chance that games may be shifted to the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club facility, which has a natural turf wicket, if Maple Leaf CC remains unplayable. The winner will advance to the 2014 ICC U-19 World Cup in the UAE.
