The inaugural KST-T20 hard tennis-ball cricket tournament took place July 24-25 in Mississauga.
Eight teams from across the Greater Toronto Area will gather at Huron Heights Park to compete in the tournament, which uses a hard tennis ball instead of the traditional cork-and-leather variety.
“The game is very popular in places like India and Pakistan and among South Asians living in Canada because since the ball is not as hard, the use of protective gear like gloves, pads and helmet is not necessary. That means it’s more affordable to play,” said organizer Mehul Panchal, of Kanada Sports Team Inc (KST). The eight teams, hailing from Mississauga, Brampton and Etobicoke, will be divided into two groups, added fellow organizer Umakanth Shivanna. The top two teams from each group will move on to the semi-finals.
