The RBC CIMA Mayor’s XI beat a Long Ditton Cricket Club XI by six wickets in the last match of the 2013 Cricket across the Pond Tour. Long Ditton made 83 all out from 19 overs and the Mayor’s XI responded with 84 for four wickets from 13 overs. The 2013 tour by the RBC CIMA Mayor’s XI ends with a highly respectable record of six wins and two defeats from the tour.
Darshil Patel (Woburn CI) and Saajan Patel (North Albion CI) each took an early wicket for the Mayor’s XI when Long Ditton batted. Siddhanth Shekhkar (Bur Oak SS) then took control with four wickets for just 12 runs from four overs. Gayan Ferdinands (Blessed Cardinal Newman HS) chipped in with two for 11 from four overs and Darshil Patel return to mop up the last two wickets as the hosts fell all out for 83. Darshil Patel ended with three wickets for just five runs from his four overs. Three Long Ditton players each made13 runs and a tail ended was left on 10 not out, but none of the batsman made a significant score
Shekhar made 20 out of 41 before being the fourth Mayor’s XI player to be dismissed. Rizwan Khan (Middlefield CI) made 20 and Darshil Patel tallied 13 to steer the tourists to victory without losing another wicket.
The game was watched by Keith Medlycott, who coached Surrey with success after retiring as a player for the county, who later provided insight for the Mayor’s XI about the mental side of playing cricket. Medlycott’s son was in the Long Ditton side. Medlycott had toured with England and England A but did not play in a test match.
