Canada places sixth in “I-Cup” as Afghanistan beat Kenya

Afghanistan’s maximum points victory on Tuesday (October 8, 2013) against Kenya in the last round-robin match of the 2011-2013 ICC Intercontinental Cup means Canada place sixth in the final standings. Kenya struggled with the bat in the first innings against Afghanistan, but recovered from 62 for seven to reach 162 all out. Afghanistan did not bat well on the opening day. A close of play score of 69 for six wickets gave Kenya some hope of capturing a first innings lead. However, Rahmat Shah battled away to reach 144 and received support from Nasim Baras (32) in a stand of 122 for the seventh wicket. Kenya were on the verge of defeat by the close of day two, which ended with the East African nation on 93 for eight wickets. Late order resistance carried Kenya to 140 all out before lunch on Day three and Afghanistan completed an eight wicket win soon after the lunch interval at the ICC Academy, Dubai.
The closing standings for the round-robin phase of the 2011-2013 ICC Intercontinental Cup see Ireland top with 116 points (includes five wins), Afghanistan and second with 104 points (includes five wins). Ireland and Afghanistan will meet in the playoff final in Dubai scheduled from December 10-14, 2013.
Scotland placed third with 66 points (includes two wins), followed by the United Arab Emirates on 60 points (two wins), Namibia on 57 points (includes three wins) and then Canada on 43 points (includes one win).
