Canada beat Uganda by 44 runs for a much-needed first win at in the WCT20 qualifier, play Uganda today. Canada had lost three straight games prior to today’s win. An unbeaten 58 from Jimmy Hansra allowed them to total 137, then three run outs and a good all-round bowling performance had Uganda all out for 93 in 17.3 overs.
Canada batted first after winning the toss. Hamza Tariq came into the team, opened the batting, but lasted just two balls before being caught. His partner Gunasekera made just 7 before departing, leaving Bagai once again the responsibility of rebuilding the innings. In partnership with Hansra, he did just that, and at the half-way point Canada were 65/2. Bagai made 40 before being stumped with the score on 79. Hansra received little support as Raza Ur Rehman, Deasrath, Cheema and Siddiqui departed for a combined 16 runs. He was unbeaten at the end with 58 from 41 balls, as Canada totaled 137/7.
Canada got off to a great start in the field as Gordon had Hamza Saleh caught from the second ball of the innings, and then Musaka was run out off the fourth delivery of the same over. It became 13/3 when Abzal Dean bowled Kyobe. Another two run-outs had Canada well on top as Uganda had 5 down with only 39 on the board after 9 overs. They never really recovered as wickets continued to fall, and were all out for 93 with 15 balls remaining. Gordon took 2/9, and Dean 2/16.
