The Region of Waterloo Cricket Association recently joined the American Cricket Federation (ACF) as its first international club member. They provide an explanation on their website, including the following:-
“Why haven’t we joined a Canadian cricket body? To be truthful none are available to us. The cricket infrastructure in Ontario is extremely underdeveloped outside of Toronto (our largest city). Our club in Kitchener (an hour outside of Toronto) is on a fault line between two organizations who claim to be the governing body for cricket in our Province. To join one organization or the other would be the equivalent of taking sides in a dispute that we don’t want to be a part of. Perhaps most discouraging is there is no avenue for a club like ours to become part of Cricket Canada. Simply put, we’re stranded in our own country.”
