Toronto Girls High School CIMA/CIBC Cricket set for May 13th

York Memorial CI Girls High School - 2013 Toronto Champions

The Toronto Girls High School section of CIMA’s CIBC Cricket Tournament is scheduled to take place at G. Ross Lord Park, Toronto, on Tuesday May 13, 2014. Five Toronto girls high school teams have entered this event: C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute (C.I.), Earl Haig Secondary School, George Harvey C.I., West Humber C.I. and York Memorial C.I..

York Memorial won the 2013 Toronto Girls CIBC School Cricket Final against West Humber by 8 wickets. Defeat in this final was surely a disappointment for West Humber who had beaten York Memorial by 8 runs in the round-robin phase earlier in the day. West Humber won all 3 round-robin games, York Memorial won 2 and lost 1, George Harvey won 1 and lost 2 while Earl Haig lost 3.

West Humber scored 54 for five wickets from 8 overs in the 2013 round-robin game against York Memorial. Whittina Brown top-scored with 25 runs and Priyanka Suramala made 15 not out. Saabiqa Chowdhury took four wickets for 11 runs from two overs. Dawn Nguyen scored 20 but York Memorial was restricted to 46 for six. Prianka Suramala took three for 14 from two overs.

West Humber also scored 54 for two (8 overs) in the Final. The total was headed by 23 extras with Prianka Suramala providing the best score by a batter in reaching 13 not out. York Memorial opening bat Farida Babur played the match-winning innings of 35 not out, sealing victory with the last ball of the sixth over.

At the Toronto launch of the 2014 CIMA/CIBC Schools competition individual awards for 2013 performances were presented to Priyanka Suramala (West Humber, Best Batter), Saabiqa Chowdhury (York Memorial, Best Bowler) and Farida Babur (York Memorial, Most Valuable Player). (EN)
