Toronto Boys High School 2014 CIMA/CIBC Trophy Groupings

The schedule for the Toronto Boys High School qualifying rounds in the CIMA/CIBC Schools Cricket Trophy seems to be largely settled. There are twenty competing schools who are scheduled to play qualifying rounds on three days next week: Monday (May 12), Tuesday (May 13) and Wednesday (May 14).
Monday’s action is due to see eight teams, divided into two groups of four teams playing at G. Ross Lord Park . Play on each of Tuesday and Wednesday will feature six teams, divided into two groups of three, playing at Sunnybrook Park.

The winning teams from each day will then meet to decide the Toronto CIBC Trophy winner for 2014 with the Toronto champion advancing to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) playoff phase at Brampton’s Dixie-Sandalwood Park at the end of this month.

Schedules taking shape for the other GTA cities

The eighteen Boys High School teams from seventeen schools in Mississauga are currently due to play qualifying matches on May 20. The schedules for the Brampton and Markham qualifiers had not been posted on the CIMA Canada website when this summary was produced, but there is a lot of background activity to be performed in arranging the schedules.

It may seem fairly easy to put names of teams and parks onto a list, but arrangements must be made to ensure the players from each school will have transport to take them to whatever ground, and not forgetting the need to arrange for the services of umpires and scorers.

During play the scorers also benefit if someone who knows the players on each of the teams is available to confirm who is batting or bowling. Old fashioned technology, such as having printed lists of each squad, comes in useful to assist the umpires and scorers in being aware of the players selected for each game.

Good, or at least reasonable, weather is a requirement that the organizers and schools cannot guarantee, but which could be important. Some will also be hoping for the wind to be largely absent, although a slight cooling breeze could be useful if there are any hot days.
