Cricket used to be very popular in Kingston. A portion of City Park in front of the Frontenac County Court House is still called Cricket Field even though it’s long been transformed into baseball diamonds. But now, it appears the sport is making a comeback locally.
“All we want is a cricket pitch,” said Mirza Ahmed, a local cricket player.Ahmed led a small delegation of cricket enthusiasts to council May 6, watching as their petition bearing more than 250 names asked the city for help to revive the historic game in Kingston. Councillors jumped at the request, voting unanimously on a motion to explore the “viability of using the Kingston Memorial Centre Site or another suitable site for establishing a Cricket Pitch.”
