Brampton Masters Tranzac 185/5 (20 ov) lost to Ontario Cricket Academy & Club 188/3 (18.5 ov) by 7 wickets
Ben Davis led the way with an unbeaten 97 as Ontario Cricket Academy  & Club (OCA&C) beat Brampton Masters Tranzac under the temporary floodlights at the Mavis ground in Mississauga on Friday night.(August 29). Davis had strong support from Nikhil Dutta made 50 not out as  OCA&C reached a winning 186/3 with seven balls to spare.  Darwin Christain had top-scored with 62 not out in Brampton Masters Tranzac’s tally of 185/5 from 20 overs.  Masters lost openers Hiral Patel and Rizwan Cheema cheaply, Ruvindu Gunasekera struck 39 and Damodar Desraeth 31 as Masters moved towards a useful score on a ground where the boundaries were shortened for this Festival match.  Ben Davis was presented with a bat for his player of the game performance.

Peel Regional Police had earlier played against OCA&C Under-19s and Canada’s Sports Minister, Hon. Mr. Bal Gosal was on hand to talk about the Canadian cricket scene with several members of the OCA&C and bring greetings to  the local community who had come out to support this Mississauga Cricket Festival initiative.
Darren Ganga made an appearance at the ground late in the evening to invite the local cricketing community to this weekend’s Trinidad  & Tobago independence cricket tournament at the University of Toronto’s cricket ground in Scarborough, Ontario.  Guyana and Jamaica teams are to play for the right to meet a Trinidad & Tobago team in Sunday’s final.
It is not often that I have been at a cricket match that took a break to announce another event of potential interest to the cricketing community at 11pm at night.  I have little doubt this was a personal first, then the Davis/Dutta partnership resumed, and the presentation of the Brandon Paltroon Memorial trophy took place. I think the Guyana-Jamaica game is today, Jamaica also celebrates independence on August 31.  But expect an update about Sunday’s arrangements later in the day, although an article in Share newspaper provides some further insight into the event.
Broader coverage of the 2014 Mississauga Cricket Festival will follow in due course, some of the pieces may come together during the course of Sunday’s T&T independence cricket festivities. It was tough taking still photos under the lights, but extensive video footage exists of both Friday night’s main game and the Thursday night game between Toronto Cricket Club and the OCA&C.  Video and still photos from Thursday night were passed on to Derek Perera during the Friday night cricketing experience which was well attended. The organizers hopes are for an expanded version of this festival in 2015.
Thanks were given to the sponsors, the Sports Minister, participating cricket clubs, the Peel Regional Police side, St John’s Ambulance volunteers, the cricket event volunteers and the community for supporting the tournament.   The organizers, various volunteers and some of the spectators then became the ground-staff to clean up the grounds for the night, as had been the case after Thursday’s play concluded. .
