2014 Durham Elementary Cricket Challenge

The 2nd Annual 2014 Durham Elementary Cricket Challenge took place on November 26-27 at the Whitby Soccer Dome. In 2013, 10 Co-Ed teams were entered in the tournament, and Chris Hadfield PS won the championship. This year, 32 Co-Ed teams participated over the two sessions in modified continuous cricket matches. The action was fast and furious, as the boys and girls demonstrated amazing bowling, batting and fielding skills.

At the end of the AM session two schools emerged, Chris Hadfield PS Commanders Team 1 and Queen Elizabeth Eagles PS Blue Team, to advance to the final four. They were joined by Chris Hadfield PS Team 2 and Valley View PS, who won the PM session finals.

The Final Four was held on November 27th. Chris Hadfield PS Team 1, made up of Intermediate students, defeated their Junior counterparts to advance to the final. Meanwhile, Valley View PS defeated Queen E. PS convincingly to book their place in the final. The final was a tight match, Chris Hadfield scored 58, and Valley View was determined to chase that score down. Unfortunately, they could only reach a score of 54. Chris Hadfield PS were repeat champions.

The organizers would like to thank all the coaches, players and volunteers, as well as Durham Elementary Athletic Association (DEAA) and Ranil Mendes from CIMA, for their efforts to grow the sport of cricket in Durham schools. We look forward to an even bigger and better tournament in 2015.
