Cricket Canada hopes to attract more females to the pitch

The popularity of cricket may be growing in Canada but the game has a long way to go when it comes to competing for the spotlight with other sports. And its supporters at Cricket Canada are doing their best to attract more female players to the pitch. Cricket Canada hopes to boost female participation in the sport by holding all-female “cric-a-thons” or cricket training camps…
It’s Nizar Moosa’s job to organize female-only cricket camps at Sunnybrook Park in the summer months and in high school gymnasiums in the winter. “It doesn’t cost them anything, there’s no cost for any equipment, everything is provided,” Moosa said of the girls who attend the cricket camps. “They get coaching from the community coach as well as the girls who are playing senior cricket.”
