December 2014 ICC Americas Performance Camp

The ICC Americas December 2014 High Performance camp in Barbados took place at a busy time of the year, near Christmas, but deserves some attention, even belated attention Ron Fanfair in “Share” spoke with participating Canadian volunteer coach Earl Barrow about the performances and progress of players at the camp. Canada Cricket Online has previously included a link to that interesting article. But the scoring details from games played by the ICC Americas squad may not be widely known.

The selected participants in the ICC Americas High Performance camp, from Bermuda, Canada and the USA, took part in five matches with local opposition in addition to participating in coaching sessions. The ICC Americas squad won one of two 50-over games and won two of three 20-over games. ICC Americas website had provided links to scorecards during the camp.
A separate camp had also been held in the West Indies with participation from some ICC Americas umpires. The efforts of ICC Americas Regional office in trying to provide development opportunities for leading players and officials deserve more than a passing round of thanks. Clearly, the Cricket Canada General Manager, Ingleton Liburd, recognized the cooperation and efforts of ICC Americas plus regional volunteers at the Indo-Canada Sports Forum in Brampton held on December 5, 2014. The then upcoming High Performance camp gained particular mention.
Oddly enough, in the last couple of days, I came across copies of the documents issued for an August 2007 ICC Americas Scorers training camp that was held at a hotel near Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Some notes about run scoring and events during a couple of innings were to be transcribed onto scoresheets by the participants. Some participants had come from the southern parts of the Americas Region. Canadian participation was bolstered by the appearance of some umpires. The course was lead by two ACU&S ( Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers) from England. I merely dropped in for the first hour or so.
It might be an interesting challenge to try and work out from some of Canadian cricket’s Provincial and League websites and facebook pages which teams won whatever competitions took place during the 2014 season, or to try and find the underlying detail associated with the various competitions. Some websites and facebook pages seem much better than others.
Do those involved in the administration of Cricket across Canada keep trying to improve, or even become more efficient and effective in attempting to develop cricket and the cricket market in Canada? Or do some prefer to sit and watch as the vehicle for moving cricket forward, tossing the occasional concept into the air for others to work on ?
The batsmen, bowlers, fielders and umpires cannot hide out in the middle, even when going overseas to perform in the midst of a Canadian winter? How can these players practice catching skied balls hit into the outfield, or longer-distance throws to a wicketkeeper in the available indoor cricket facilities in Canada? How do you prepare for possibly “strange” foods, and possibly customs, in a new town, city on a visit to a different country? (EN)
