Kings Cup champions

The inaugural Under-15 Kings Cup was won by Canadian School of Cricket team 3 who beat Markham Cricket Academy team 1 in Saturday’s final (February 14) at the Sorkkam indoor cricket centre.
Youtube video of end of match
The original idea of showing this faster-paced indoor cricket action than T20 cricket was to provide an example of one over without any major guidance to the viewer. But there was a run out on the last ball of the 15th of the 16 overs in the 2015 Under-15 Kings Cup Final, so the batting team’s score went down.

That ball included two appeals for a run out, the second appeal was successful after the umpire turned down the first appeal. The batters tried to complete a second run when the first appeal was turned down.

On this play, to use baseball terms, the batting team scored 1 run (the first run was completed successfully) but had 5 runs deducted as the second appeal was successful. The batting team’s score went down by 4 runs from this ball. The on-field umpire then makes a cry of “Last Over” and the last six balls of the Final are played out.

Summary Scores for the 2015 Under-15 Kings Cup Tournament
A summary of the scores from the 2015 Under-15 Kings Cup Tournament has now been compiled from the information shown on the TV screen electronic scoreboard during play. No individual player highlights have been included. Some of the leading individual achievements, and the combined efforts of the batting pairs (who each faced four overs, regardless of the number of “outs”) will be reported at a later date.
Each game summary shows the closing total of each team then provides, in brackets, a breakdown of the number of runs scored by each of the four batting pairs in a team and shows the total number of “outs” for each team. Three consecutive dot balls in an over was an “out” under the competition rules but some methods of being out in a normal game of cricket, such as LBW (leg-before wicket), did not apply under the rules used in this indoor tournament.
Tournament Outcome
Canadian School of Cricket Team 3 beat Markham Cricket Academy Team 1 by 12 runs in last Saturday’s Final (February 14, 2015) and became the first Under-15 Kings Cup champions. Earlier on Saturday, Canadian School of Cricket had beaten Oakville Cricket Academy by 72 runs in the Quarter Finals, and continued on a winning path thanks to an 85 run success against Ceylon Cricket Academy in the first semi-final to reach the Final.
Markham Cricket Academy Team 1 began the playoffs with a 105 run win against Durham Cricket Academy. Markham Cricket Academy Team 1 then beat Canadian School of Cricket Team 2 by just 3 runs in the semi-final round in the closest game of the day. There had been one tied game in the qualifying pool games played during the previous weekend when Canadian School of Cricket Team 1 and Invitational Girls each scored 69 runs.
Durham was one player short for the playoffs, so only could only use three pairs of batters rather than the normal four pairs in this style of indoor cricket. As each pair of batters must face four overs, the “missing” eighth bowler for Durham was made up by two overs from two of the team’s available seven players. The score for Durham’s fourth batting pair under the rules was set as 0. As 5 runs are deducted for each out, this set score under the rules of 0 was higher than some batting pairs that ended with a negative number of runs.
All eight Under-15 teams and an Invitational Girls Team played two matches in one of three groups during the weekend of February 8 & 9, 2015 that allowed them to get used to this format of indoor cricket, based on a set of rules from Australia. The points and runs scored in these group matches decided the quarter-final pairings.
General Note: Scoring Summaries
The score made by each of the four pairs of batters who each faced four overs of bowling is given in brackets after the team’s total score for the game. Five runs were deducted for each “out”. Note the special “out” under the competition rules: If no run was scored from three consecutive
balls in an over then a batter was “out” and five runs were deducted.
