Syed Shaheer Izhar has been agitating for the growth and increased participation of his favourite game since his transformative trip to Pakistan, where he was born before moving to Canada with his family in 2000. In Grade 7 he and a friend started a team at their middle school. He did so again in Grade 10 at a school in Waterdown, Ont., and for a third time this year at Frank J. Hayden.

And while that progress is promising, the much-longed-for next step is recognition from OFSAA, the official arbiter of secondary school sport in the province.
“It’s a big dream for all of us to be recognized at OFSAA one day,” said Izhar. “It would be one of the greatest things to happen.”
