Goetz wins third straight Mayor’s Cricket Trophy

When it comes to high school cricket, the Father Goetz Gators have a flair for the dramatic. Father Goetz’s girls team won its third straight CIMA Mayor’s Cricket Trophy and its second straight by a slim margin Saturday in Toronto. The Gators scored 57 runs through eight overs while their opponents, Toronto’s George Harvey Collegiate, replied with 55. Goetz coach Laurene Durham said this year’s victory was special because most of the members of the team are new players. “We have a lot of students from non cricket-playing countries who never knew anything about cricket,” Durham said.
