East v South in today’s CCO U16 Final

Team East is due to play Team South in today’s (Wednesday July 8, 2015) final of the 2015 Cricket Council of Ontario’s Under-16 Championship at Centennial Park, Etobicoke. The final, with a maximum limit of 40 overs per team innings, is due to start at 1pm.
Light rain that became heavy rain and was followed by some thunder and lightning hit Tuesday’s playoff games. The West v South game is shown as a washout (No Result) on the Chauka scorecard while the East-North game is shown as a tie, based on play that did take place before the rains really hit.

Play in Tuesday’s games began early, at noon, based the projected rain and storms for the afternoon in the Greater Toronto Area. West scored 159/8 from 35 overs and South had reached 48/3 from 12 overs when rain hit the ground. East made 79 all out from 35 overs in the playoff with North, whose 44/3 from 12.3 overs was deemed sufficient to declare the game a tie.

Individually, Rahmankhan Pathan lead West’s batting efforts against South with a knock of 48. Opening bat Moazim Qureshi top-scored with 38 in East’s 79 all out. Quershi held firm while his side lost five early wickets in scoring 13 runs. Abaan Khan lead North’s early bowling successes. He took 3 wickets early wickets and conceded just 11 runs from 7 overs during East’s innings. East’s Raquib Samsudeen took 3/6 from 4 overs in the North innings.

The Cricket Council of Ontario website has a news item about this tournament which includes a link to the scorecards and tournament records posted on the Chauka scoring website, and a link to the CCO facebook page. The latest CCO news item thanks ICICI Bank, Yashi Sports and Chauka for supporting this tournament in addition to thanking three local cricket leagues for their support. The CCO’s thanks mention the Toronto District Cricket Association, the Brampton-Etobicoke Cricket League and the Hamilton & District Cricket League.

It’s a touch damp on the grass around my house, which is within ten to fifteen minutes of the Centennial Park grounds but it is due to be quite warm with more than a touch of humidity. So let’s hope for the Final and the 3rd place game to start on time and produce some good cricket.

Cricket is not included in this year’s PanAm games that are about to start in the Greater Toronto Area, but the east pitch at Centennial Park is not far from the “CEB” PanAm games venue. C is for cycling in PanAm terms but by following the signs for “CEB” and wandering a kilometre or so north of the BMX venue inside Centennial Park, you could come across the Cricket Council of Ontario’s 2015 CO Under-16 Cricket Championship final. There’s even a Mississauga transit bus route that has been allowed to enter TTC territory at Kipling subway station that could get me (and others) to the CEB PanAm games venue.
