YRAA Outdoor Boys Cricket Underway

The York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) outdoor Boys High Schools cricket championship began last week and group matches are scheduled into next week. The opening round in the East Group saw big wins for this year’s CIMA Mayor’s Greater Toronto Area finalist Middlefield CI and for Father McGivney at McCowan Reservoir, Markham Middlefield fired 181 runs (15 overs) against Bill Hogarth SS, then bowled out Hogarth for just 12 runs. Father McGivney struck 148 against Bill Crothers, who replied with 72. Maple High School opened the West Group with a mighty 188 against Richmond Hill High School, who stumbled to 26 all out in the face of that impressive Maple total. Woodbridge College won against Huron Heights in the one game where more scoring details would be needed to know if the game was won by 1 run or by however many wickets. The basic news for this game, played at Maple Leaf Cricket Club, is Woodbridge 80, Huron Heights 79.

The East Group continues on Tuesday (Oct 3) with games at McCowan Reservoir between Middlefield (Won 1, Lost 0) and Bill Crothers (0/1), and Father McGivney (1/0) against Bill Hogarth (0/1). One week later, on October 10, Middlefield plays Father McGivney and Bill Hogarth takes on Bill Crothers.

This Thursday (October 5) there are West Group games at Maple Leaf CC where last weeks winners come face-to-face in the Woodbridge College (1/0) v Maple HS (1/0) match. Richmond Hill (0/1) plays Huron Heights (0/1) where both schools will be looking for a first win of this school cricket season. On Thursday October 12 at Maple Leaf CC the scheduled matches are; Richmond Hill v Woodbridge College, and Huron Heights v Maple HS.

All games are scheduled with a limit 15 overs per innings and a start time of 3pm according to the YRAA website and playing conditions.
