Toronto North/West Region Boys Playoffs Today

Toronto, May 23, 2019: The playoffs in the Toronto District School Board’s Boys High Schools North/West Region are due to be played at G. Ross Lord Park today (Thursday). Seven schools participated in group matches on Tuesday and Wednesday, each school playing four games with the top four progressing to today’s playoffs.
Emery Collegiate Institute followed two run-feast wins on Tuesday, hitting just over 140 runs from 10 overs in both matches, with two solid wins on Wednesday. Emery garnered 78 for 4 from 10 overs against AY Jackson Secondary School (SS), then restricted AY Jackson to 37/6 from 10 overs. The winning margin of 41 runs proved to be the closest game for Emery in the group phase as the top order batsmen then struck 92 runs for the loss of 4 wickets from 10 overs against Northview Heights. Emery followed up by dismissing Northview Heights for 35 to complete 4 wins from 4 games and head the qualifying round standings.
AY Jackson scored 70/4 from 10 overs then limited William Lyon MacKenzie CI to 37 for 4 from 10 overs to win the game by 33 runs. This meant AY Jackson closed with 3 wins, 1 defeat and a place in the top four.
Northview Heights went on to beat CW Jefferys CI by 15 runs in the last round of group matches to complete a record of 3 wins and 1 loss to ensure a place in the playoffs.
John Polanyi played four games, winning two and losing two on the first day of group matches. This proved sufficient to place fourth in the North/West Region.
Earl Haig SS scored 50/1 from 10 overs but lost by 7 wickets to CW Jefferys on Wednesday. CW Jefferys reached a winning 51 for 3 after 7.1 overs to register what proved the school’s only win. Earl Haig was left without a win having lost in the opening round of Wednesday’s games against William Lyon MacKenzie CI. Earl Haig struggled to 22 for 4 from 10 overs, then William Lyon MacKenzie then struck a winning 23/ 3 from 4.2 overs.
So Thursday’s semi-final participants are Emery CI (Won 4, Lost 0), AY Jackson SS (Won 3, Lost 1), Northview Heights SS (Won 3, Lost 1) and John Polanyi CI (Won 2, Lost 2). Meanwhile, cricketing success at this level must wait for at least one more year for William Lyon MacKenzie CI (Won 1, Lost 3). CW Jefferys CI (Won 1, Lost 3) and Earl Haig SS (Won 0, Lost 4).
The semi-finals are due to start at 8.30 when the weather is forecast to be sunny with clouds. During the morning the forecast changes to light rain but if the light rain does not fall or is really “light” there should be a chance of completing the semi-finals and final before possible thunderstorms make an appearance.
