Outdoor Schools Cricket Underway in Toronto

There has been less wet weather this week than in recent weeks in Toronto. Last week’s scheduled cricket under the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) banner was washed out but Tuesday (May 22, 2019) saw action in the Boys High Schools North/West Region.
Emery Collegiate Institute (CI) piled up the runs in two wins on Tuesday pounding 145 for no wicket from 10 overs against C.W. Jefferys CI and 147 for 1 wicket against Earl Haig Secondary School (SS). CW Jefferys seem to have tried but failed to blast back in the face of 145/0 but tumbled to 30 all out. Earl Haig battled away to use all 10 overs but ended well short of the target 148 runs with just 23/3.
AY Jackson SS also won two of two games on Tuesday. CW Jefferys made 39/7 from 10 overs in the opening game of the day, AY Jackson replied with 40/1 from 6 overs. AY Jackson then struck 46/1 from 10 overs and defended this total, limiting John Polanyi to 39/2 from 1 overs.
John Polanyi had a busy day with four games that began with a loss to Northview Heights, then the loss to AY Jackson SS before beating Earl Haig SS and William Lyon MacKenzie CI. Polanyi made 35 from 10 overs against Northview Heights who swept to victory with 36/4 after 7.4 overs. Polanyi held Earl Haig to 26 runs from 10 overs then pumped 32/4 from 3 overs for victory. William Lyon Mackenzie managed a few more runs against Polanyi to reach 33 after 10 overs. Polanyi clipped a winning 37/4 from 4 overs.
Games continue in this regional group on Wednesday and four teams will advance to the playoffs on Thursday. (EN)
