Fifth Men’s Canadian College Cricket Tourney Continues

The Fifth Men’s Canadian College Cricket Championship continues today (Friday, 6 September 2019) at Maple Leaf Cricket Club, King City, Ontario with the last two series of T20 round-robin matches followed by the four quarter-final games. The quarter finals are due to begin at 3.30pm after early birds and bees watch four round-robin games due to start at 8.30am and the last three round-robin games have been played after noon starts.
On Saturday (7 Sept) the first semi-final is due to start at 8.30am with the second semi-final following at noon. The Final is scheduled to begin at 3.30pm.
Group A
The University of Waterloo leads Group A with 2 wins from 2 games and a NRR of +1.25 thanks to winning runs struck from the last ball of the scheduled 40 overs against Ryerson University on Thursday. Ryerson opening bat Viplav Naik struck 61 runs while Waterloo’s Joban Sidhu picked up 5 wickets for 35 runs from 4 overs, including three caught and bowled. Waterloo opener Umer Iqbal hit 61 then Talha Yousafzal clipped 26 runs in the last 2 overs, including the winning boundary from the last ball of the 20 overs. Yousafzal ended 38*.
Ryerson (W 1, L 1, NRR -0.0449) is due to play Nova Scotia XI (W 0, L 2) at 8.30am then Waterloo (W 2, L 0, NRR +1.25) play Canadian College of Business, Science and Technology (CCBST) (W 1, L 1 NRR 0.6866) at noon to complete Group A matches.
Group B
St Clair College (W 2, L 0, NRR +2.4993) plays University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) (W 1, L 1, NRR -0.1061) in an 8.30am game today that UOIT will be hoping to win. Conestoga College (W 1, L 1, NRR -1.2344) has a chance of a place in the quarter-finals but may find McGill University in determined mood after 2 losses from 2 games (NRR -0.9624).
Group C
Algonquin College scored 156 for 6 wickets from 19.2 overs to overhaul Wilfrid Laurier University’s 152/3 from 20 overs to end Thursday on a high note. Algonquin College (W 2, L 0, NRR +1.4732) is up against University of Ottawa (W 1, L 1, NRR +0.4500) at 8.30am while Wilfrid Laurier University (W 1, L 1, NRR +0.492) take on Lakehead University (W 0, L 2, NRR -2.0505) at noon. So this will be an interesting morning in Group C.
Group D
Humber College scored 181/4 from 18.2 overs and beat Carleton University 190/9 (20 overs) under the D/L system in the last round of Thursday’s matches in Group D. Humber College 181/4 was well ahead of the required D/L target of 165 runs. Humber College (W 2, L 1, NRR +1.8161) and Lambton College (W 1, L 2, NRR -1.0456) have completed their round robin
games. This leaves an interesting last game on Friday between Carleton University (W 1, L 1, NRR -0.1043) and University of Toronto Scarborough (W 1, L 1, NRR -1.2149).
