Bermuda U17 150 (46.5 ov) lost to USA U17 151/1 (38.4 ov) by 9 wickets

USA U17s bowled out Bermuda U17s for 150 and powered to a nine wicket win with 11.2 overs to spare of the innings limit of 50 overs on Thursday (August 21) at Bermuda’s National Sports Centre. USA’s win came despite a brave effort from Bermuda’s captain and opening batsman Alex Dore who propped up his team’s innings with 85 runs from 148 balls. The next best score with the bat for Bermuda was 8 by Christian Gibbons. Delray Rawlins who has made a major contribution with the bat and bowled well for Bermuda in previous games did not play on Thursday.

Alex Dore, the first batsmen in the Bermuda order scored 85. The top six in the batting order combined for 86 runs. Four ducks and a single, excluding Dore’s efforts, resulted in Bermuda being 35/5 in the early going.

Some of the lower order batsmen stuck around in support of Dore. Using up 46.5 of the possible 50 overs allowed several extras to build up. The innings closed with 42 runs in extras, topped by 26 wides. US opening bowler Keifer Phill took 3/22 from 7 overs and Jash Patel took 3/7 from 6.5 overs. Dore’s innings ended with him bowled by Jash Patel.

The US innings began with a stand of 67 that ended when Guaranshu Sharma was caught off Christian Gibbons for 12. Opening batsman Sagar Patel went on to score 61 not out, while number three bat, Jash Patel, struck 44 not out in an unbroken stand of 84. USA’s 151/1 from 38.4 overs included 34 extras, 28 of which were wides. So both sets of bowlers will be surely be told to aim to reduce the number of wides conceded in the remaining games of this ICC Americas Development tournament.

The USA juniors now have a record of 2 wins and 1 defeat, the defeat was against Canada, and on Friday USA and Canada meet again at the National Sports Centre, Bermuda in an important game that is likely to decide the tournament champions. Canada has won two games out of two, and faces hosts Bermuda in Saturday’s closing game of this tournament.
