Canada lost their final warm up match in Zimbabwe today, their third against a strong Zimbabwe A team. Zimbabwe A won the toss and chose to bat. Nitish Kumar captained, and Jimmy Hansra was also in the team.
Thanks to 146 from Hamilton Masakadza (veteran of 171 one-day internationals0, Zimbabwe A posted the intimidating total of 310/6 from their 50 overs. Rizwan Cheema and Cecil Pervez each took two wickets.
Canada made a reasonable start in reply with a 56 run opening stand between Kumar and Wijeratne (21). Kumar made 41, but Canada started to lose their way, with the fourth wicket falling at 89. Sehdev and Hamza Tariq (35) put on 68, but Canada fell well behind the required run rate. Canada batted out their overs, making 240/9, with Sehdev top scoring with 58, from 84 balls.
A 70 run loss was disappointing but overall the visit to Zimbabwe has achieved its objective, match practice against strong opponents in African conditions. Most of the batsmen have spent time in the middle, and the bowlers all have had a good chance to get used to the conditions. Canada now goes on to Uganda, where they open the ICC Division 3 tournament on May 23 versus the hosts.
