Emery Collegiate Institute (CI) became the first Girls Cricket City Champions in Toronto District Secondary Schools Athletic Association history on Thursday (June 1, 2017) beating York Memorial CI by 16 runs in the final. Emery CI girls scored 48 runs for the loss of 8 wickets from 10 overs. The York Memorial contained too many dot balls – balls from which no run was scored – and ended on 32 for 4 wickets after 10 overs.
York Memorial coach Mahendra Ram said how this championship is a step on the way to broadening cricket participation before presenting the new championship pennant to Emery CI.
