Middlefield in YRAA Final

Richmond lose their first wicket

Middlefield Collegiate Institute bowled out Richmond Hill High School for 37 then struck 38 runs for the loss of two wickets to reach the final of the York Region Athletic Association’s Varsity Boys Cricket championship on Thursday (October 19, 2017). The loss of four wickets for one run from four balls that included a hat-trick by Darshil Patel undermined the Richmond Hill innings. An attempt to score two runs after an initial misfield in the covers produced one run for Richmond Hill and a wicket for Middlefield. The running between the wickets was not the best. Yusuf then attempted an offside drive, the ball rose quite sharply and was well caught by the wicketkeeper. Yusuf proved to be Richmond Hill’s top scorer with 14. Celebrations continued when the next ball was edged and took a downwards path into the keeper’s gloves and greater celebrations marked the dismissal of the next batsman, bowled to complete Darshil Patel’s hat-trick. The Richmond Hill innings ended on 37 all out after 13.2 overs of a potential 15 overs.

An early wicket for Rudra and a run out proved the only wickets to fall as Middlefield reached a winning 38 for two after 8.2 overs as the sun continued to shine and the wind continued to blow at differing paces across the grounds at McCowan Reservoir in Markham. Middlefield opening bat Faheem Mutara top-scored with 11*.

The result of Thursday’s semi-final between Maple High School and Father McGivney Catholic Academy at Maple Leaf CC was not available when this report was filed.

The final is due to be played at McCowan Reservoir on Tuesday October 24, 2017 with a start scheduled for 1.30pm.
