The Canada Under-19 squad arrived back safely from the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport on Tuesday evening (Jan 30, 2018). Family and friends greeted several of the players but for some of the squad a further flight is needed to return them to western parts of Canada.
Some of the waiting parents and siblings had been in New Zealand for some or all of Canada’s games. Canada did quite well, given the challenge of not only playing out-of-season but facing opposition from ICC Full Member countries. Canada won two games against ICC Associate countries in one of the better performances by a young Canadian team in this Under-19 tournament.
Several of the squad are young enough to be eligible for the next ICC U19 Cricket World Cup. It will be interesting to see how all of the Canadian players develop after the experience of this tournament. It may be more interesting to see how playing and practice facilities develop in Canada to assist the development and progress of cricket from sea to shining sea across Canada in the near future. (EN)
