Wilfrid Laurier pulled off a big 8 wicket win against University of Massachusetts Lowell but McGill lost by 6 wickets to Everest on Friday Match 16, the third day of the 2018 American College Cricket National Championship in South Florida.
Ryerson Cricket Club’s facebook page indicates Ryerson has qualified for Saturday afternoon’s quarter-finals. A number of qualifying round games remain to be played on Saturday morning. The championship semi-finals and final are scheduled for Sunday (March 18, 2017).
University of Massachusetts Lowell 141/6 (20 overs) lost to Laurier 142/2 (11.2 overs)
Wilfrid Laurier beat University of Massachusetts Lowell by 8 wickets on Friday (March 16, 2018). U Mass Lowell began shakily losing 2 wickets for 1 run by the 1.3 over mark. Pranav Patel clipped 30 runs before falling at 42/3 (8.3 ovs). Shirav Kapedia 39 and Muqmeet Ahmed added 50 for the 6th Lowell wicket. Armaan Kapoor took 2/13 from 4 overs. Arman Kapoor then clipped 53 from 18 balls (4x4s, 5x6s) before being out at 65/1 at 4.1 overs. His opening partner was out for 6 at 4.4 overs (63/2). An unbroken stand of 75* between Abdul Naeem (49* from 27 balls) and Hussein Akbar (19*) saw Laurier surge to victory.
McGill 115/5 (20 overs) lost to Everest 117/4 (10.1 overs)
Opening bat Rohan Dutt hit a useful 25 before losing his wicket with 40 on the board for McGill after 8.3 overs. Fellow opener Arham Syed battled away to make 32 before being run out: McGill 95/3 after 17.3 overs. Everest opening bowler Bhagwant Singh Saini did not take a wicket but conceded just 7 runs from 4 overs to keep a tight grip on the scoring rate. Pankil Patel took 2/16 from 3 overs, his wickets removed the number three and four in the McGill batting order, Sidharth Chugh (15) and Anil Kumar (17).
Meetul Patel stuck 48 of Everest’s 77/4 at the 7.3 over mark before Samih Sadiq’s 35* lead the rest of the way to a winning 117/4 at the start of the 11th over.
Earlier on Friday, Everest struck a useful 192/6 from 20 overs but New Jersey IT retained a win streak when reaching 196/6 with three balls to spare.
