The current issue of “Gujarat Abroad” (July 13, 2018) includes a report about this year’s ISSO Cricket Tournament; an event hosted at Smithfield Middle School, Etobicoke on the weekends of June 16 & 17 and June 23 & 24, 2018. ISSO is the International Swaminarayan Satsang Organization and this year’s cricket tournament was organized by ISSO Canada, based in Toronto.
The intention is to help promote “physical activities and mental awareness in youth”. Beyond those elements “the goal was a holistic approach” which encompassed young and old within the community. The fear – highlighted in the opening words of the report is “An idle mind is the Devil’s workshop”, so “ISSO Canada strives to foster a healthy society” and the cricket tournament aims at ensuring youth are not deprived the chance to engage in physical activities. Cricket is one of some the different sporting events arranged in recent years to counteract possible lack of physical activity for the community’s youth.
