South Young Warriors win in Mississauga Youth Cricket Festival

A big hit from the South Young Warriors

South Young Warriors, from the southern part of Trinidad, beat the Atlantic Region Cricket Board (USA) on Monday (July 30, 2018) thanks to some powerful shots from Isiah Gomez batting at number 5. Gomez pumped 74* to lead his team past Atlantic Region’s total of 194/2 from 30 overs with 10 balls to spare in the Under-18 section of the Mississauga Youth Cricket Festival.
Gomez’s display brought him the Player of the Game award ahead of a fine knock of 109* from Atlantic Region opening bat Saiteja Mukkamalla. Gomez and Young South Warriors captain Vanir Maharaj (48*) added an unbeaten 111 for the fifth wicket.
The game was played on the artificial wicket at the Mavis ground in Mississauga, where natural grass wickets have been established in recent years. The outfield is in good condition with the grass cut low, so good shots are rewarded unlike the outfields that exist at several grounds in the Greater Toronto Area. Quality outfields also help players develop the fielding skills necessary to play cricket at higher levels.

Atlantic Region U18s play a Mississauga City U18 XI at the Paul Coffey ground in Malton (9am scheduled start).
Two games in the Under-14 section are scheduled for the Mavis ground today (Tuesday, July 31, 2018).
