Guyana followed up tidy bowling, led by Kevelon Anderson, with solid batting to earn a seven-wicket victory over hosts Windward Islands today and capture the WINDIES Under-19 One-day title for the fifth straight year.
The Guyanese (Won 5, Lost 1) finished with 27.8 points, finishing 5.5 points ahead of Trinidad & Tobago (W 4, L 2), whose chances hit a snag when Sanjay Brown and Kirk McKenzie shared seven wickets to bowl Jamaica to a four-run victory in the final round of matches.
The Jamaicans (W 4, L 2) ended with 20 points, 1.2 more than Barbados (W 3, L 2, NR 1), whose final match against Leeward Islands ended in a no-decision following a series of rain delays.
Hosts Windward Islands (W 3, L 3) were fifth with 17.2 points, Leeward Islands (W 1, L 4, NR 1) were sixth on 8.8 points and Canada (W 0, L 6) finished at the bottom of the seven-team table with 0.6 points.

Leading Performances
Canada U19s Kavian Naress (192 runs) struck 3 fifties with a highest score of 71 and came fourth in the tournament run scorers behind Windward Islands opening bat Kimani Melius (257 runs, 1 century & 2 fifties), Jamaica’s Carlos Brown 215 runs (2 fifties) and Shian Brathwaite (Barbados) 202 runs (2 fifties).
Camarie Boyce (Barbados) took 14 wickets at an average of 9.5 runs per wicket (3.41 runs per over). Joshua Jones (Guyana) took 13 wickets at 12.92 (4.31 rpo) and Justyn Gangoo (Trinidad and Tobago) took 13 wickets at 6.08 (2.19 rpo).
Melius in Windies B team for this weekend’s Canadian CricketFest
Kimani Melius was named to the Windies B team that is to play in Canada’s CricketFest and did not play in the Windward Islands last game of the tournament. Windies B along with Canada, Canada A and Toronto Bears are due to play T20 warm-up games at Maple Leaf Cricket Club today (Thursday, August 30) before the CricketFest T20 tournament is contested on September 1, 2 and 3 at Maple Leaf CC. This event allows the Canadian national team to prepare for September’s ICC Americas T20 World Cup qualifier in the USA.
Cricket Canada has announced live streaming of the T20 tournament game via CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) of the T20 tournament game. Streaming of the first game each day is set for 11 am with the second game’s broadcast starting at 3pm.
Canada and West Indies B are scheduled to play two 50-over matches next week at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club, King City, Ontario (intersection of Dufferin Street and 15th Sideroad).(EN)
