After yesterday’s thrilling win over USA, Canada have a more routine game against Belize today. This was a good opportunity to bring in players who have not seen much action to date, and Abraash Khan took full advantage, opening the bowling, and taking three wickets in his first two overs. Junaid Siddiqui, Saad Bin Zafar and Nikhil Dutta also took wickets as Belize lost 7 wickets for 15 runs. A minor recovery was halted by a run out, then Saad Bin Zafar took his 3rd wicket. Another run out finished the innings- all out for just 32 in 10.2 overs. Saad Bin Zafar took 3/12 and Abraash Khan 3/4. Canada took just 16 balls to register the win without losing a wicket. With the entire game completed in just 13 overs, this must be one of the shortest internationals on record. Canada and the USA have beaten Belize and Panama so comprehensively in the 5 matches played to date, it raises the question as to the value of these matches for either side. For a team to test themselves against one in the tier above can be useful in developing the game, but the gulf between these countries and Canada and USA is vast – the matches have been not even close to competitive.
