The York Region Athletic Association’s outdoor cricket season is underway despite some miserable weather in the past week. Defending champion Maple High School is due to enter the competition on Thursday (October 4) with a game against Bill Hogarth Secondary School (SS) that is to be followed by a second game against Bill Crothers SS. The season did start a couple of days later than originally scheduled. Middlefield Collegiate Institute hit 105 runs from the designated 15 overs and beat Bill Crothers SS by 54 runs last Thursday (September 27).
It seemed miserable on Monday morning in the Toronto area with rain coming down and much lower temperatures but two games were played at McCowan Reservoir, Markham. Ontario. Middlefield CI scored 40 and beat Bur Oak’s 39. Bill Hogarth scored 59 and beat Bill Crothers 53.
There are now five participating schools in this year’s tournament and the Maple Leaf Cricket Club is no longer scheduled to host any matches. The top four advance to the semi-finals scheduled for the morning of Wednesday October 17 at McCowan Reservoir. The final follows in the afternoon.
