Canada lost their third match of the West Indies Regional 50 over competition to Trinidad and Tobago but not without a real fight. They posted a sub-par 207/7 from their 50 overs, but bowled very well, with Trinidad and Tobago scraping home by 2 wickets.
Canada won the toss and chose to bat. Rodrigo Thomas, after a couple of fifties, failed, caught off Rampaul for 1. Dhaliwal made 32 from 25 balls, before being caught with the score on 44. Canada struggled against tight T+T bowling, with Adhihetty making 32 from 55 balls, Thaker 25 from 57, Kumar 15 from 27, Dutta 23 from 56 and Jacobs 37 from 57. Canada totalled 207/7 from 50 overs, a score that seemed challenging to defend against a strong batting side.
Canada bowled well, and made scoring difficult for T+T. Eranga had Simmons leg before for 1, then Pervez bowled Lewis- 28/2. The spin of Dutta and Salman Nazar kept it tight and the pressure told when Salman Nazar has skipper Ramdin leg before- 57/3 in the 19th over. Hope and Pooran however put together a good partnership, Pooran reaching a fifty in the 29th over. They put on 104 before Pooran was bowled by Brar. Pollard went for 3, caught and bowled by Dhaliwal. Hope had made 50 but then was bowled trying to hit Brar over the top – 170/6 and three wickets had fallen for 9 runs. Narine hit out, but skied Brar to mid-off and Canada were in with a real chance – 24 to win but only three wickets in hand. Jacobs brought Pervez back into the attack, and two wides and a leg side full toss hit for 4 eased the pressure. Jacob’s next change was immediately successful, replacing Brar who had taken three wickets with Salman Nazar- who took the 8th wicket with his first ball, caught at mid-on – 16 to win, 2 wickets. With the scores level, Emrit smashed a drive to mid-off- where Gunasekera put down the catch, and they completed a run for the 2 wicket win.
