Unbeaten Maple High School (W 4, L 1) plays Bill Hogarth Secondary School (W 1, L 3) and Middlefield Collegiate Institute (W 3, L 1) faces Bur Oak Secondary School (W 1, L 3) in the semi-finals of the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) Varsity Boys Cricket Championships this morning (Wednesday, October 17, 2018). The winning semi-finalists advance to this afternoon’s final. All games are scheduled to be played at McCowan Reservoir, Markham, Ontario.
This year’s closing round-robin game was played on Tuesday and produced a high run count from the 15 overs allowed per innings. Maple HS thumped 151 runs then Bill Crothers Secondary School responded with 86. Crothers loss meant a record of 1 win and 3 losses and fifth place based on the YRAA tie-break process where schools finish level on points.
The Maple HS-Bill Crothers SS game fell victim on Monday to persistent rain and was re-scheduled for Tuesday so the playoffs can go ahead today. The possibility of some showers exist but not much rainfall is in the forecast. The temperature for the morning semi-finals is likely to be a lower figure than the 10 of the 10 am start time and may drop during the afternoon.
