Peel Schools Indoor Cricket Update

The Region of Peel Secondary Schools Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) indoor school cricket season enters the playoff phase this week. The round-robin phase in the Varsity Girls, Junior Boys and Senior Boys competitions concluded on Friday, April 3, 2019.
Varsity Girls
Sandalwood Heights Secondary School (SS) won all 6 matches to top the Varsity Girls competition. Heart Lake SS came second with 4 wins and 2 losses. Three teams ended with a balanced record of 3 wins and 3 losses: Mentor College, Castlebrooke SS and David Suzuki SS. North Park SS won 2 and lost 4 while Father Michael Goetz CSS propped up the standings due to 6 losses from 6 games.
Subject to official confirmation, the playoffs would seem to pair Sandalwood Heights with Castlebrooke and Heart Lake with Mentor College.
Junior Boys
The round-robin phase of the Junior Boys competition involve ten schools, divided into two groups of five. North Peel SS won all 8 game to head the North Division. Central Peel SS won 5, lost 2 and tied 1 to place second, Chinguacousy SS won 3 but lost 5, Sandalwood Heights won 2 and lost 6 while Jean Augustine won 1, lost 6 and tied the game against Central Peel.
Glenforest SS topped the South division with 7 wins and 1 loss. Stephen Lewis SS won 6 and lost 2 to place second ahead of Turner Fenton SS who won 5 and lost 3. TL Kennedy won 2 and lost 6 while Applewood Heights lost all 8 games.
The playoffs pair North Division winners North Park SS with Stephen Lewis SS. South Division winners Glenforest SS take on Central Peel SS.
Senior Boys
The Senior Boys competition had the largest entry for this year’s ROPSSAA indoor cricket with an entry of 23 schools, although one school pulled out before playing any game.
The North East division saw three schools finish with 4 wins and 1 loss: Castlebrooke SS, Lincoln M. Alexander SS and Louise Arbour SS. Cardinal Ambrozic CSS won 2 but lost 3, Chinguacousy SS won 1 but lost 4, the one win being against Sandalwood Heights who registered for the competition but did not play a game this year.
Central Peel SS placed first in the North West Division ahead of David Suzuki SS and North Park SS who each registered 3 wins and 2 losses. Brampton Centennial SS and Heartlake SS each won 2 but lost 3. Turner Fenton SS trailed in the North West with just 1 win and 4 losses.
Five schools played in the South Division. TL Kennedy won all 4 games. Clarkson SS won 3 and lost 1, Port Credit SS won 2 and lost 2, Applewood Heights won 1 but lost 3 leaving Mentor College at the foot of the standings with 4 defeats.
Stephen Lewis SS won all 5 games to head the South Central division. John Fraser SS won 4 and lost 1, Rick Hansen won 3 and lost 2, St Joseph Catholic SS won 2 and lost 3. Father Michael Goetz Catholic SS won 1 game that left St Francis Xavier at the bottom of the table with 5 losses.
Three teams from each division advance to the playoffs. The first round of playoff matches involves teams that placed second or third in a division with the winning team advancing to play against one of the group winners en route to the semi-finals and final.
Based on the playoff structure on the ROPSSAA website: David Suzuki (NW2) will play Louise Arbour (NE3) with the winner advancing to meet North East leaders Castlebrooke. Clarkson (S2) will meet Rick Hansen (SC3) then the winner plays Stephen Lewis, winners of the South Central division. John Fraser (SC2) plays Port Credit (S3) for the right to play South Division leaders TL Kennedy. Lincoln Alexander (NE2) plays North Park (NW3) with the winner advancing to meet North West leaders Central Peel.
