2019 Peel Region Schools Indoor Cricket Playoffs

The ROPSSAA (Region of Peel Secondary Schools Athletic Association) indoor cricket season is due to see semi-finals in two of this year’s three competition categories and finals in all three categories in the coming week. The Junior Boys final is slated for Monday (May 13, 2019), the Girls Varsity Final follows on Wednesday (May 15) and the Senior Boys Final is due on Thursday (May 16).
Junior Boys Playoffs
The top two from the South Group of the Junior Boys competition, Glenforest SS (Won 7, Lost 1) and Stephen Lewis (Won 6, Lost 2) are due to meet in the final on Monday (May 13, 2019). Glenforest beat Central Peel 42 to 36 in Wednesday’s semi-final then Stephen Lewis beat North Park 49 to 45 on Thursday to complete a double for the southern teams.
Girls Varsity Playoffs
The Girls Varsity semi-finals pairings on Monday (May 13) see unbeaten Sandalwood SS (W 6, Lost 1) meet David Suzuki SS (W 3, L 4) and Heart Lake SS (W 4, L 2) play Castlebooke SS (W 4, L 3). The winning schools advance to Wednesday’s final (May 15).
Senior Boys Playoffs
Two playoff rounds were due to have been completed by the end of Friday (May 10) but one of the preliminary round games was re-scheduled for Friday and no result had been posted by what is deemed the 7 pm day-of-playoff game deadline. A failure to report the score of a playoff game by 7pm could mean that neither team advance to the next playoff round.
Preliminary Round
Three Preliminary Round games that involved teams placing second and third in the round robin phase were played on Tuesday May 7. David Suzuki (second in the North-West Group) beat Louise Arbour (third in North-East) 51-50. North Park (third in North-West) beat Lincoln M. Alexander (second in North-East) by 25 runs. North Park scored 82 while Lincoln M. Alexander replied with 55. John Fraser (second in South-Central) beat Port Credit (third in South) by 36 runs. John Fraser clipped 72 runs then limited Port Credit to 36.
The game between Rick Hansen (third in South-Central) and Clarkson (second in South) was re- scheduled for Friday, but no score for this game had been posted as of 10pm Friday May 10, 2019.
Quarter-Finals
Three quarter-finals were played on Thursday (May 9). Castlebrooke scored 41 then restricted David Suzuki to just 15 runs. John Fraser lead the day’s run making with 93 against TL
Kennedy who scored 67 to leave John Fraser with a win by 26 runs.
The semi-finals are due to be played on Tuesday (May 14). John Fraser is due to play Central Peel while Castlebrooke may end up playing Stephen Lewis if the absence of a result for the Rick Hansen v Clarkson game sees both teams defaulted out of the playoffs. An empty box seems to have been added to the graphic for the Senior Boys Playoffs as a possible omen that both Hansen and Clarkson are out of the competition.
The Senior Boys Final is due to follow next Thursday (May 16, 2019).
