GT20 Second Round Begins on Tuesday

Round 1 of the second GT20 Canada ended on Sunday (August 4 2019) with new franchise Brampton Wolves suffering a first loss against the 2018 champions, Vancouver Knights. Brampton Wolves were all out for 138, a total the Knights passed within 16 overs for the loss of just two wickets. Toronto Nationals picked up a second win, beating Montreal Tigers by four wickets with 15 balls to spare, after the Tigers innings closed at 136 for 9 after 20 overs.

Round 2 begins on Tuesday (August 6) with top-placed Brampton Wolves (Won 4, Lost 1) paired against sixth-placed Edmonton Royals (W 1, L 4). Second-placed Vancouver Knights (W 3, L 1, No Result 1) will meet Winnipeg Hawks (W 2, L 3) on Tuesday. The third and last game of Round 2 on Wednesday (August 7) sees third-placed Montreal Tigers (W 2, L 2, NR 1) take on fourth-placed Toronto Nationals (Won 2, Lost 3).

The top four teams in the standings after Round 2 advance to the playoffs, which begin on Thursday. Finishing first or second in the standings provides the possibility of losing in the playoff phase but still being able to reach the final. The top two after Round 2 will play each other on Thursday. The winner of the game advances to Sunday’s final (2pm start) while the loser has a second chance in the Saturday playoff game (2pm start) against the winner of Thursday’s match between the third and fourth placed teams.
